ASSOCIATE PASTOR
Job Title: Associate Pastor
The Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Libertyville is called to demonstrate leadership qualities that inspire, encourage, and motivate the congregation to fulfill God’s purpose in their daily lives. They will work within a leadership team that fosters a rich environment for spiritual growth, guided by strategic objectives established through grassroots reflection. The ideal candidate will have a vibrant passion for character development through servant leadership, kindness, and humility, enhancing the strengths of current leadership and equipping them for success. They will honor traditions while striving for innovation, inclusion, and diversity, attracting and equipping new members for participation and leadership.
The Associate Pastor will contribute to a nurturing and trustworthy environment in Christian education, helping God’s word to be incorporated into the congregation’s heart, words, and deeds. They will serve as a beacon of God’s grace and love.
Job Summary:
The Associate Pastor will possess well-developed interpersonal skills including respect, flexibility, conscientious decision-making, leadership, and collaboration. They will assess and respond to the needs of a multi-generational congregation, with expertise in the adolescent phase of life. The ideal candidate will visualize the needs of a complex congregation and advocate for the church youth, being attentive to societal trends impacting them. Grounded in scripture theology, they will respond to complex groups in a Christ-centered, sensitive, and relevant manner, showing interest in vocational development.
Responsibilities:
● Build relationships with and among adults, parents, youth, children, volunteers, and church leaders to nurture belonging, strengthen the community, and encourage engagement.
● Assist in the worship life of the congregation, periodically preaching and designing worship services as coordinated by the Head of Staff.
● Envision, create, and facilitate innovative and vibrant Christian education ministry for adults, families, and children.
● Supervise staff employed or recruited for youth ministries and multi-generational programming.
● Recruit, equip, and support volunteer youth advisors and Sunday School teachers.
● Organize, supervise, and participate in recreational and service activities with children, youth, and adults.
● Evaluate and guide the selection of programming for a multi-generational congregation, including maintaining accurate data and preparing annual budget recommendations for Christian Education.
● Undertake other responsibilities as determined by the Head of Staff or Session.
