Celebrations of our Faith

Baptisms

Baptism is the sign and seal of incorporation into Christ. Baptism points us back to the grace of God expressed in Jesus Christ as it points us forward to that same Christ who will fulfill God's purpose in God's promised future. God's grace is steady; God's faithfulness is enduring. Baptism is administered only once, to adults, children or infants. Baptism is an act of faith as we pray that all will come to trust Christ and claim God's promise as their own. When infants and children are presented for baptism, the parent(s) shall be an active member of this congregation.

Customarily baptisms are conducted on the 3rd Sunday of each month in either the Sanctuary or the Chapel. Adults seeking baptism or parents wishing to have children or infants baptized should contact the church office to confirm the date and time.

Upcoming baptism dates: Jan 27, Feb. 24, March 31, April 28, May 12, June 16, July 21, Aug. 11, Sept. 29, Oct. 13, Nov. 24, Dec. 29.

Weddings

Marriage is God's gift to humankind for the well-being of all. For Christians, marriage is a covenant, through which two people are called to live the fullness of life together in the presence of God. The marriage service leads to a life-long commitment, publicly witnessed and acknowledged by the couple's family and community of faith.

A wedding in First Presbyterian Church is a service of worship in which the pastor and our wedding coordinator join with the couple to be wed in formulating the plans for the wedding. The church Sanctuary seats approximately 600 plus another 150 in the balcony. The Chapel seats approximately 140 plus another 25 in the balcony.

Weddings are performed for members of the church. Exceptions to this rule are rare and are left to the discretion of presiding ministers.  A minister of First Presbyterian Church officiates at wedding services on our campus. Inclusion of pastors from other Christian faiths may be possible after consultation with and permission from a presiding minister from the First Presbyterian Church.

Please contact the church office to make a reservation for the date. The fee schedule can be made known to you at that time. The earlier this is done, the better.

Funerals

A funeral or memorial service in the Christian faith is a witness and celebration of our faith through worship, in which we give God thanks for the life of the deceased person and ask God's blessing upon family and friends. Our pastors are available to help lead you through the funeral planning process. Please contact the church office.
