Warm greetings to you,Welcome to First Presbyterian Church of Libertyville. We hope that you'll spend a few minutes exploring our site to get a glimpse of the many opportunities to worship, grow and serve at First Pres.
Of course, the most satisfying way to experience First Presbyterian Church is in person. We invite you to worship with us this Sunday at our 10:00 am services. If you have any questions, please call us at (847) 362-2174. Our office hours are 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday and 9:00 am - Noon on Sundays.
When you attend worship services, please stop by the Information Table outside the Sanctuary for a complete offering of brochures and publications about all of the ministries and opportunities that await you at First Pres.
There are parking lots on the South and West sides of the building. You will find a small lot marked "Visitors" on the West side of the building (Douglas Ave.), set aside for our newest visitors. If the lot is full, try the other lots or park along the side streets that surround the church.
Standing by the doors leading to the Sanctuary, you'll find greeters to welcome you and to direct you to other parts of the church building. You will find ushers positioned outside of each door of the Sanctuary. They will offer you a program. The white sheet is the Order of Worship and will guide you through the service. You will also find a colored insert called Parish Life, which lists upcoming events and announcements.
Children of all ages are always welcome and encouraged to join in our worship services. Partway through the worship service, the children will be invited to gather at the front of the Sanctuary for a special, children's sermon. They will sit on the steps during the interactive sermon. Children are then led to their age-appropriate classrooms in the Christian Education wing.
We offer childcare for infants and toddlers during worship services and most adult education programs. We suggest that you bring your little ones to the nursery and toddler rooms in the Christian Education Wing before worship services and let our sitters take care of them for you. Our rooms are equipped with infant swings, toys, books as well as loving care. Pagers are available. For more information regarding Christian Education or Nursery/Toddler Care, choose the Our Community tab in the top menu bar.
Feel free to sit upstairs or on the main floor. You'll find reading materials, Bibles and hymnals located in the pew racks in front of you. Sometime during the service, a friendship pad will be passed up and down the pew. Please spend a moment to fill in all of the information.
When the pastor calls for the passing of "The Peace", everyone in the congregation spends a moment greeting those around them. Typical greetings include: "Peace", "Peace be with you" or "Christ's Peace".
First Pres celebrates Communion in several ways. If you are attending church on the first Sunday of a month or a special service, Communion will be served. Everyone is welcome at the Lord's Table.
After the service, the pastors stand at the doors of the Sanctuary to exchange greetings and handshakes. We invite you to introduce yourself to the pastor and mention that you are a visitor. He or she will be happy to direct you to the Information Table, the refreshments or to a friendly church member who can answer any questions that you might have about First Pres.
After services, the Social Hall is abuzz with fellowship and activity. Tables are scattered about, some offering coffee, tea, lemonade and cookies and others offering information about current and upcoming activities.
