Thank you to countless volunteers who made Rally Day 2010 possible and to the entire Congregation who participated! We have so much to celebrate as we begin another fall of Building Our Faith together! May we all Grow and Give in the year ahead.
School Supply Drive Update ─ The 2010 School Supply Drive was a resounding success. Thanks to the congregation of First Pres, more than 100 filled backpacks and a host of other school supplies were distributed to our Mobile Food Pantry attendees on August 21. Through your generosity, we also were able to provide 50 filled backpacks and other supplies to our partner Hope Presbyterian Church in Chicago. We also extend our thanks to Burlington Coat Factory in Palatine for supplying backpacks at a very reasonable cost. This annual event is sponsored by the Board of Deacon's Community Ministry.
HELP STUDENTS REALIZE THEIR COLLEGE DREAMS. “Waukegan To College” (W2C) is a targeted program that helps disadvantaged students prepare for, achieve admission to, and succeed in college. It supports parents who hope their children will be the first in their family to ever graduate from college.
We’d like to involve more students, but to do that we need more people like you. Roles for volunteers are varied: assist at workshops, tutor, mentor, provide tech support for families (imagine your home without the Internet!), advise families on financing a college education … Opportunities can be “one time” or continuous.
Please join us for the informational meeting Thursday, September 2, 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libertyville. We’ll meet in the Formation Center of St. Joe’s, Room C, located on Milwaukee Ave. next to the Temporary Cook Library – enter from the back (east side) of the building. Interested but can't attend the meeting? Call the church office for contact information. 847-362-2174
Greeters Needed. Greeting is a wonderful way to meet other members of the congregation and a great way to extend the hand of God to those worshiping with you. You need only greet once every four months (that’s 3 times a year!). Look for the sign-up sheet in Fellowship Hall and set a date to greet or call the office at 362-2174. Consider becoming a part of this vital ministry in your church.
FOOD PANTRY NEEDS YOU!! Please consider giving a few hours one Saturday a month to help distribute food to struggling families in our area. You can choose from 3 different work sessions or come for the whole event: 8:00-11:00 am, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm, 12:00 - end (approximately 2:00)
If you want to help but are unable to physically do so, you can help by donating giant coolers for water and/or cups and/or ice. Coolers and cups can be dropped off a day or 2 ahead in social hall kitchen. Ice must be dropped off the morning of the Food Pantry distribution. Label clearly "FOOD PANTRY".
Sign ups are easy! There will be a sign up sheet on the office window, in the chapel narthex or in social hall.
Thank you for the gift of your time and generosity.

Become a Stephen Minister: An Opportunity to Learn, Serve, and Grow
Stephen Ministers are members of First Pres (just like you!) who go through 50 hours of caregiving training. This training enables them to provide emotional and spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time, such as divorce, grief, hospitalization, unemployment, terminal illness, relocation, chronic illness, or loneliness. We'll be training a new class of Stephen Ministers soon. To find out more about becoming a Stephen Minister, talk with one of our Stephen Ministry Leaders.
Meals on Wheels Driving Team Is Open to Volunteers As a M.O.W. volunteer, you will pick up meals at the Libertyville Civic Center at lunchtime and follow the map provided to you to deliver meals to our neighbors in need. Each First Pres driver goes out two or three times a year, and the delivery usually takes one or two hours. We are about to set up our 2008 schedule—if you can join our great team of generous drivers (or have questions), please call the church office for contact information. (847-362-2174)
