Summer Book Read!
Followed by a BOOK DISCUSSION on
Wednesday, September 8 at
7:00 PM.

Just when you thought you were done with homework for the summer, along comes First Church’s Adult Steering Committee with . . . MORE HOMEWORK!  Seriously, please join us this Summer in reading  The Good News from North Haven, by Michael L. Lindvall.

“Good News” tells the tale of Reverend David Battles, the new pastor of the local Presbyterian church in North Haven, Minnesota.  Fresh from the suburbs, he discovers that this village turns hearts of stone into hearts of flesh.  Each short story in Lindvall's sparkling diamond of a book tells of the ordinary, wondrous events in this small town from one Christmas to the next.  By the end you will be remembering similar situations of small towns, people, traditions and change, and how the Grace of God keeps us going.

Lindvall grew up in small towns in Minnesota and in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

He is the pastor of Brick Presbyterian Church in the City of New York and has graced the pulpit of FPC Libertyville on several occasions.

Books may be ordered from local bookstores or Amazon.com ($12.50)

In September, we’ll get together to share our favorite chapters and recall some faith stories of our own.  Pastor Roberta will provide the pimento cheese sandwiches and

sweet tea!

The Presbytery of Chicago and First Presbyterian Church of Libertyville

cordially invite you to a service of worship for the installation of

The Rev. Millason Paige Forrester Dailey

as Associate Pastor for Student Ministry

Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.
in the Sanctuary.

Join us for a reception immediately following
in Fellowship Hall.

Have you taken advantage of the “Sunday Saint” standing on the side of the chancel?
That’s a Stephen Minister.  You can receive “on-the-spot” care and share your burden.  If you feel you need privacy, just ask the Stephen Minister to step out of the sanctuary or chapel area to share your prayer concern or need.  Know, too, that whatever you share, whatever you pray about is confidential.

Our Stephen Ministers Are Ready to Care for You!
We like to think of summer as being a relaxing, enjoyable time. But hurts, struggles, crises, and problems don't take a vacation. If you are experiencing a difficult time--emotionally, spiritually, or relationally--you don't have to suffer alone. Our Stephen Ministers are trained caregivers, ready to listen, care for and encourage you, pray with and for you, and provide one-to-one Christian care to help you through whatever it is that you are facing. Stephen Ministers are members of First Pres who have been through extensive training and provide confidential, one-to-one, Christian care. To find out more about Stephen Ministry for you or someone you know, talk with one of our Stephen Leaders.
Check us out.

Stephen Ministry Class to Begin in Fall — Perhaps God has blessed you richly and you're at a place where you can give something back by serving and blessing others.
