Caring for one another in the name of Jesus Christ is at the heart of our ministry at First Pres...and forms the basis for the Christian's core values.
At First Pres, this caring comes with many titles and faces to accompany but, at the center of it all, is the injunction from our Lord to be a caregiver in the manner of Jesus' own ministry. The pastors are open and available to speak with anyone wishing to be heard. We provide pastoral care; none of us are trained/certified pastoral counselors. Depending upon the need and urgency, a referral in one of several ways is possible...to a Stephen Minister, to the Pastoral Counseling Center, to a FirstNeighbors leader, to a Deacon or an Elder or to one of the local area social services.
The notion that Christians reach out to others is well-ingrained. On the other hand, Christians have a reciprocal obligation to ask for assistance when it is needed, and before any manner of problem becomes unmanageable. The pastor's office is the place to begin and it we keep God in the middle of the conversation. God understands and sympathizes with one having a troubled heart, mind or soul.
As a large, and growing, congregation, pastoral care needs rise along with this growth.
First Pres is blessed with a generous team with wide-ranging talents, ages, life experiences and abilities with which to be of assistance.
